Tragic Allentown-area accident claims life of young woman

A teenager on her way to visit a dying woman in Pennsylvania was killed in a tragic Allentown-area accident recently.

The victim was a 19-year-old woman from Clark, Missouri. She was riding in a van with her boyfriend and another young woman when their vehicle and a tractor-trailer collided at 4:36 a.m., on southbound Route 309 at West Saucon Valley Road, according to the Lehigh County coroner’s office.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pastor of her church in Centralia, Missouri, told The Morning Call newspaper that the young woman’s boyfriend wanted to see his grandmother one last time.

The pastor said the trip to visit the grandmother, who was in hospice care, was about 1,000 miles. They had left 24 hours earlier.

The young woman was studying psychology at a community college in Missouri and worked as an assistant manager at an area McDonald’s. Making the trek to support her boyfriend as he made an emotional last visit with his grandmother seemingly was in her character.

“She was a very outgoing young lady,” the pastor said. “She was always concerned about the poor and those who were suffering and needed attention and love. She set an example for her peers.”

The church and the McDonald’s have set up funds to help pay for her funeral costs. Still, her family will have other needs that need to be met. Being from out of state, the family should consult with a Pennsylvania attorney to discuss the effects of the accident and how the state’s laws can assist them.
